Cash App Founder Bob Lee Dead at 43

The San Francisco Police Department reported late Tuesday that a 43-year-old man had been stabbed earlier in the day and died in the hospital from his injuries. In a statement that did not identify the victim, the department stated that the incident was being investigated and no arrests had been made.

At around 2:35 a.m., officers went to a stabbing report in the 300 block of Main Street in the Rincon Hill district of the city, as per CBS News. Upon arrival, they discovered the victim, who was transported to a hospital but died of his injuries there, according to police.

As of Tuesday evening, the city's medical examiner's office had not officially identified the body, but Lee's friends and coworkers said he was the victim. The company announced that Lee, a 43-year-old Chief Product Officer for the San Francisco-based cryptocurrency business MobileCoin, passed away early Wednesday morning.

Lee had relocated to Miami late in the previous year, but he was in town for the MobileCoin leadership summit and was staying a few extra nights to visit friends.

According to Reuters, Block Inc (SQ.N) promotes Cash App as an alternative to traditional banking services since it enables consumers to transfer funds using a mobile application. Block was not available for comment at this time.

Lee was the chief product officer of the cryptocurrency business MobileCoin, where he had previously served as an early-stage investor and advisor, the company said on Twitter.

Block, the parent company of Cash App, was recently in the headlines when short-seller Hindenburg said in a report that the payments company exaggerated its user counts and underestimated its client acquisition expenses.

Rick Lee wrote on Facebook, "Bob would give you the shirt off his back. He would never look down on anyone and adhere to a strict no-judgment philosophy. Bobby worked harder than anyone and was the smartest person ever. He will be missed by all those that knew him."

Tim Oliver Lee, Bob's brother, stated on Facebook, "I was so fortunate to grow up with him, and I feel like I've lost a piece of myself."
