Police detained two juvenile suspects Friday in relation to a horrifying triple murder in rural Florida last week that killed three teens.
According to Sheriff Billy Woods of Marion County, Indiana, the victims and their suspected murderers knew each other before the Florida Triple Murder crime occurred, per CBS News.
On March 30, the New York Post reported that the body of Layla Silvernail, a softball star at the age of 16, was discovered abandoned on the roadside.
According to Woods, a 17-year-old male was found on a road about half a mile away.
Police said the third victim, a teenage girl, was discovered in the trunk of Silvernail's automobile after the vehicle was found in a pond nine miles from the scene of her initial abandonment.
Woods remarked that those perpetrators escaped the sites "but left a lot of evidence in their wake, noting that the two minors in custody had been charged with first-degree murder. He also vowed to arrest the third suspect in the Florida Triple Murder.
Authorities would not provide a comprehensive timeline of what happened, but they did say that all six young people were in Silvernail's automobile with him at one point.
Florida Triple Murder Not Caused By Rivalry
According to Woods, all suspects and victims rode in the same car shortly before committing the crime.
In addition, he stated that he could not reveal "everything" about the case on Friday due to the situation of the last suspect in the Florida Triple Murder.
"Simple terms... there is no honor among thieves," Woods said, per a story from the Orlando Sentinel.
Eventually, the three suspects would murder our three victims. According to his subsequent explanation, the robberies were behind his actions.
Each of the youths hailed from a separate gang. Woods added that investigators had found no evidence linking the murders to any vendetta.
The sheriff also thanked the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the United States Marshals Service, and other agencies for their assistance.
