ChatGPT, the artificial intelligence (AI) chatbot of OpenAI, proves to be becoming more popular among adults in the United States and the United Kingdom, a recent survey shows.

While AI tools in general, including Bing Chat, Dall-E, and Midjourney, are seeing massive growth among adult users, ChatGPT remains king in terms of usage.

ChatGPT AI Popularity in the UK, US

According to Tech Radar, a recent survey by Onepulse now shows that roughly three out of 10 people in the US and the UK have tried using ChatGPT AI. The study looked into the responses of 890 respondents from two Western countries, which seeks to look into the popularity of generative AI tools these days.

Reuters reports that OpenAI's ChatGPT has around 100 million monthly active users as of January, precisely two months since the chatbot debuted. With that, the AI chatbot proved to be more popular than social media platforms like TikTok. The Chinese-owned video-sharing platform waited about nine months before reaching the same number of users, roughly 100 million.

On the flip side, Meta-owned social media Instagram took slightly longer to get to that rate. The photo-sharing service was up and running for around two and a half years before reaching 100 million users. ChatGPT made waves when it debuted in December, announcing this week that a commercial version of the service called ChatGPT Plus would soon be available to users in the United States.

And now, a recent survey shows that 17 percent of adults in the US and UK have tried out that sought-after chatbot service. ChatGPT does all sorts of stuff. It can be used for research as it answers various questions. Multiple prompts also help in creating content. Not to mention that it can also dabble in computer coding.

It is worth noting that the OpenAI service kicked off its beta phase to the public last November 2022. A few months after, the paid ChatGPT Plus service debuted to the tune of $20 per month.

Other AI Tools Are Becoming Popular as Well

Apart from ChatGPT, other generative AI tools are also getting the shimmer of the spotlight. The survey from Onepulse finds that 12 percent of its UK and US respondents have tried out other AI platforms. These folks admit they have checked out services like Midjourney, Dall-E, Night Cafe, and more.

For the uninitiated, Midjourney is an AI tool that allows users to create images or graphic art by simply providing prompt descriptions. Dall-E works similarly. It also delivers realistic photos based on reports. Similar to these two, Night Cafe also provides AI-generated art.

The aforementioned generative AI tools are increasingly popular in the US and the UK. At least 1 out of 10 people have experienced using these services, according to the survey.

The survey also asked participants if they think these generative AI tools are set to replace their jobs in the future. While most folks believe otherwise, about 5.5 percent agree they might soon lose employment over these next-generation AI technologies.
