- Trump said he would never withdraw from his presidential bid
- Trump suggested that Biden would withdraw from the 2024 campaign
- The former president asserted that "something is wrong" with Biden
Former US president Donald Trump, charged with a crime in New York on Tuesday, vowed to "never drop out" of the contest for the White House in 2024 and asserted that Joe Biden is unfit to run again.
The Republican real estate magnate, who faces 34 felony counts in New York for allegedly paying hush money to an adult film actress, told Fox News anchor Tucker Carlson that nothing, not even a conviction, would prevent him from running for president.
Donald Trump 2024 Presidential Campaign
Trump and other prominent Republicans have repeatedly questioned President Joe Biden's mental capacity and evident fragility.
Fox News and other right-wing media frequently emphasize his verbal gaffes and instances where he appears to have lost his train of thought. During his presidency, Fox provided an uncritical forum for Trump to express his grievances. The then-commander-in-chief occasionally dropped in on programs unannounced and spoke at length with presenters.
The relationship deteriorated following Trump's electoral loss to Biden in 2020 but has progressively improved as the Republican nomination race winds up, according to SCMP.
The interview, of which part two is scheduled to air on Wednesday, comes weeks after texts surfaced showing Carlson disparaging Trump after his election loss. A Tuesday Morning Consult poll revealed that 56% of Republican primary voters supported Trump while only 23% supported Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.
According to reports, Trump will return to New York City on Thursday for a deposition related to the civil fraud litigation brought by New York Attorney General Letitia James against Trump and his three adult children.
In the expansive interview, Trump devoted much time to discussing foreign policy. Trump and Gen. Mark Milley, chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, criticized the United States' withdrawal from Afghanistan in 2021.
Joe Biden's Presidential Bid
Trump asserted that "something is wrong" with Biden and doubted that the 80-year-old would survive the 2024 presidential election. On Monday, the former president referenced Biden's interview with Today's Al Roker at the White House Easter Egg Roll.
Roker spoke with Biden and first lady Jill Biden on the Truman Balcony and questioned the president about his participation in Easter Egg Rolls after 2024. Trump declared his intention to retake the White House in mid-November, immediately following the midterm elections, extending an already extensive presidential campaign timeline. Biden has yet to declare a reelection campaign officially.
Per Daily Mail, some Biden sources said last week that the announcement could come as late as this fall, while others believed it would be made this summer.
In the meantime, Trump is attempting to make quick work of the Republican primary field, which has officially attracted Nikki Haley, former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson, and Vivek Ramaswamy, but also includes Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis, former Vice President Mike Pence, Sen. Tim Scott, and former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo.
