Donald Trump Faces Deposition in New York State's $250 Million Fraud Lawsuit

The ex-POTUS returns to New York to face a lawsuit threatening his business empire

Former President Donald Trump arrived in New York Thursday morning, Apr. 13, for a deposition in a high-profile civil case brought by the state against him, his children, and his massive business empire.

New York's Democratic Attorney General Letitia James filed a lawsuit against Donald Trump and his children, Donald Trump Jr., Eric Trump, and Ivanka Trump, and the Trump Organization in September, alleging that they were complicit in a scheme to defraud lenders and others for over 10 years, as reported by CNN.

Legal action has been taken to prevent the Trump family from doing business in the state, and is seeking damages of $250 million. In October, the trial will begin. The Trumps insist they have done nothing wrong.

As a part of the case's discovery process, the former president will be subjected to deposition, and according to his attorney's statement on Thursday and Donald Trump is now willing to answer the attorney general's questions.

Donald Trump is Ready For The Inquiry

Donald Trump's attorney, Alina Habba, said that the former POTUS is "eager to testify" before Attorney General Letitia James, per CBS News.

Habba said that Donald Trump firmly believes that he has nothing to hide and is keen to inform the Attorney General about the remarkable accomplishments of his "multibillion-dollar company."

In a deposition in August, Donald Trump repeatedly invoked the Fifth Amendment's protection against self-incrimination to avoid answering questions. The court case will begin in October.

Donald Trump's presence in New York follows after he entered a not-guilty plea last week to 34 felony charges of falsifying business documents connected to his participation in hush money payments near the conclusion of his 2016 presidential bid in a Trump lawsuit filed by Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, per NBC News.
