Nima Momeni has been arrested in connection with the assassination of Cash App founder Bob Lee, San Francisco Police Chief Bill Scott announced Thursday at a news conference.

Bob Lee's Killer Arrested

According to records from the California Secretary of State, Momeni has owned an IT company that, according to its website, offers technical support services. Momeni was arrested without incident and transported to the San Francisco County jail, where he was filed on one count of homicide.

Early on April 4, Bob Lee was stabbed in the Rincon Hill neighborhood of San Francisco. A local Bay Area news website reported surveillance footage and a 911 call documented the moments following the stabbing incident.

The surveillance footage, evaluated by the online news source The San Francisco Standard, depicts Lee strolling alone on Main Street while "gripping his side with one hand and his cellphone with the other, leaving a trail of blood behind him.

Momeni is reported to have known his victim; the two men reportedly shared a car ride immediately before the murder.

According to Mission Local, they were in a vehicle registered to Momeni. The assault by a friend could partially explain why Lee was wandering at 2.30 a.m. through an area of Main Street with almost no foot traffic, according to Daily Mail.

Lee passed away at the hospital later that morning. The specifics of the relationship between Lee and his alleged killer remain unknown.

Who is Nima Momeni?

On his LinkedIn profile, Momeni identifies himself as an "IT Consultant/Entrepreneur" and the owner of Expand IT. According to state business filings, Momeni is the chief executive officer, secretary, and financial officer of Expand IT INC, an information technology consulting company.

According to his LinkedIn profile, Momeni has been "a dedicated technology partner since 2005" and founded Expand IT in 2010. In 2011, Momeni was charged with misdemeanor switchblade possession, according to court documents. After he entered a plea the following year, the case was dismissed.

Meanwhile, Lee is well-known for developing the popular mobile payment service Cash App while serving as chief technology officer of Square, now known as Block. At the time of his demise, he was the chief product officer for the cryptocurrency company MobileCoin.

Per ABC News, Lee was murdered while conducting business in San Francisco. He was reared in Missouri and had recently relocated to Miami with his father. His friends described him as courageous, intrepid, and a devoted father to his two children.

Many in the tech industry and beyond reacted to Lee's demise with shock and sorrow. Some, including Elon Musk, stated that the incident demonstrated that "violent crime in San Francisco is horrifying."

On Thursday, District Attorney Brooke Jenkins of San Francisco criticized Musk's statement as "reckless and irresponsible." Jenkins stated that Musk's remark "assumed incorrect circumstances" regarding the fatality and effectively "spread misinformation" while police were investigating the incident.
