US President Joe Biden and First Lady Jill Biden released their 2022 federal income tax return on Tuesday, revealing how much they earned last year and how much taxes the couple paid.
Aside from Biden, the US Vice President, Kamala Harris, and her husband, Doug Emhoff, also publicized their tax returns for 2022, which disclosed their earnings.
Biden's 2022 Tax Filing
As per a report by NBC News, the Bidens reportedly earned nearly $580,000 in 2022, according to their recent tax filing. The gross income of the first couple is to the tune of $579,514.
The news outlet notes that the earnings of the Bidens saw a slight decrease from their gross income in their first year in the White House, or 2021, to be more exact. As such, the President of the US and the first lady earned less last year compared to 2021.
To be precise with the figures, NBC News notes that the Bidens reportedly earned $610,702 in 2021. With new tax filing out in public, it reveals that the couple saw a slight drop in their income by around $31,000.
USA Today reports that most of Biden's earnings come from his salary as President of the US (POTUS). Annually, he earns a total of $400,000 for the top role in the country. Apart from the President's pay, the First Lady of the United States (FLOTUS), Jill Biden, earned roughly $82,000 for teaching at the Northern Virginia Community College.
On top of their salaries, the Bidens get a fraction of their income from their annuities and pensions, which pay them around $5,000 and roughly $35,000, respectively.
Meanwhile, US Vice President Harris, and the second gentleman, reportedly flaunted a gross income of $456,918, as per their recent federal tax returns. The VP earns around $220,000 for her role, whereas the second husband received $169,665 pay for teaching at the law school of Georgetown University.
How Much Tax Did Biden Pay?
According to Bloomberg's story, the tax filing of the POTUS disclosed that Biden paid a total of $193,925 in federal and state taxes for 2022.
It was a bit lower than his taxes in 2021 since he donated over $20,000 to charities and churches. He gave $5,000 to the Beau Biden Foundation, alongside his donations to St. Joseph on the Brandywine and the Fraternal Order of Police Foundation.
On the other hand, Harris and the second gentleman paid $93,570 in federal income tax with a tax rate of 20.5 percent.
Notably, former President Donald Trump did not release his tax returns in the last four years he was in the White House, breaking the tradition of the men before him.
