Hunter Biden's lawyers are slated to meet next week with US Attorney David Weiss and at least one senior career official from Justice Department headquarters to address the president's son's long-running probe, according to numerous individuals familiar with the case.

In recent weeks, Hunter Biden's legal team has contacted Justice Department officials, requesting an update.

Hunter Biden Probe

According to one person familiar with the conversation, they were invited to meet next week, as is customary when attorneys request a progress report. Weiss, the US Attorney for the District of Delaware appointed by former President Donald Trump, oversees an ongoing criminal investigation investigating President Joe Biden's son.

There have been no public developments since prosecutors reduced the possible charges Hunter Biden may face last year. According to people familiar with the case, prosecutors are still debating whether to pursue two misdemeanor tax evasion charges, one felony tax evasion charge relating to overreporting costs, and a false statement charge linked to a gun purchase.

Hunter Biden has previously denied any misconduct and has not been charged with any crimes. The meeting is being held as the Hunter Biden legal investigation resurfaces after an IRS supervisory special agent contacted Congress, claiming to have evidence regarding possible mismanagement and political intervention in the case.

While the agent's lawyer did not name Hunter Biden in a letter to Congress because doing so may violate the tax rules, a person familiar with the subject previously told CNN that the case involves the president's son.

It comes as federal prosecutors consider four accusations against the president's son, three of which are linked to tax evasion and one of which is tied to a weapons purchase.

According to NBC News, the prospective accusations include two misdemeanor counts of failing to submit taxes, a single felony offense of tax evasion connected to a business cost for one year of taxes, and the gun charge, which is also a potential felony.

Hunter Biden said on the Firearm Transaction Record that he did not utilize illegal substances while acquiring a.38 caliber gun in 2018, but admits in his biography that he was a crack addict. It is a crime to provide false information while purchasing a firearm intentionally.

Furthermore, two senior law enforcement officials told the network that there is "increasing discontent" inside the FBI because most of the investigation was completed last year. However, the IRS completed its tax inquiry more than a year ago.

There is no indication of when charges could be filed. Hunter Biden has categorically denied any misconduct. During Trump's administration, the Hunter Biden investigation began in 2018. In his unsuccessful 2020 re-election campaign, the former president invoked Hunter Biden as a rallying cry for his followers.

Hunter Biden's money relating to his offshore business operations was the subject of the original examination. It eventually came down to whether he declared all of his income and if he lied on gun purchase papers in 2018.

IRS Whistleblower

House Republicans are also looking into Hunter Biden's businesses. Earlier this week, a guy working as a supervisory agent on a "high-profile" criminal tax inquiry came out requesting whistleblower protections, saying politics was "improperly contaminating choices" in a specific case.

The clandestine question was thought to be concerning the Hunter Biden case. On Wednesday, a lawyer for the anonymous whistleblower wrote to senators and inspectors general for the Justice and Treasury departments.

The IRS agent's charges against Hunter Biden also "involve failing to minimize evident conflicts of interest in the eventual resolution of the case" and "contradict sworn testimony to Congress by a senior political appointee."

A source familiar with the whistleblower letter verified to the Washington Examiner on Thursday that the anonymous senior Biden official whose testimony before Congress is being disputed is Attorney General Merrick Garland.
