Bud Light faced widespread backlash after transgender woman Dylan Mulvaney posted a sponsored Instagram post featuring the Anheuser-Busch alcoholic beverage.
Since then, the conservatives have furiously targeted Bud Light and Mulvaney, a trans influencer popularly known for her TikTok series, aptly titled "Days of Girlhood."
Bud Light - Dylan Mulvaney Backlash: How Did it Start?
Amid the March Madness, the beer brand Bud Light, which Anheuser-Busch owns, sponsored Mulvaney's Instagram post. According to CNN, Bud Light launched a campaign that seeks to be inclusive, partnering up with personalities like the famous trans woman influencer Mulvaney, known for her "girlhood" TikTok series.
While the campaign seeks to embrace inclusivity, it triggered a widespread backlash from conservatives. Fox News reports that the social media personality, Mulvaney, posted an Instagram post to share that Anheuser-Busch sent her Bud Light beer cans.
However, this is different from the usual drink we see in stores. It has her face on it since it was a commemorative beer, which celebrates a milestone in her "girlhood" transition. Two Instagram posts of Mulvaney disclosed that it was paid for or sponsored by Bud Light, which has since been the center of attacks from some anti-trans folks.
Meanwhile, Musician Kid Rock joined the uproar against Bud Light. He posted a video on Instagram shooting cases of the beer brand. He says, "F**k Bud Light, F**k Ansheuser-Busch." Others had the same sentiments, but they expressed them by boycotting alcoholic beverages.
The boycott has had a significant impact. The New York Post reports that the stock of Anheuser-Busch slumped by more than $5 billion. Some bar owners have stopped selling Bud Light. A recent poll says that more than half of America supports this call, Daily Mail reports.
Who is Dylan Mulvaney?
The trans woman, Mulvaney, primarily rose to popularity on TikTok in early 2022, leading to roughly 10 million users following her on the video-sharing platform, as per NBC News. She started gaining significant traction online after launching some TikTok series, which follow her gender journey transition.
Her unprecedented popularity on TikTok even caught the attention of the White House. Mulvaney met with the President of the United States (POTUS), Joe Biden, last October, alongside other youngsters to discuss their chosen advocacies. The "Days of Girlhood" maker discussed with the President some of the issues concerning the trans community.
But apart from this recognition, Mulvaney's rapid rise to popularity also surged criticism from internet folks against her. The backlash grew more when she met with Biden as conservatives called them out. Republican Senator Marsha Blackburn called her an "absurdity," adding that the President and "radical left-wing lunatics" are pushing to make "this absurdity normal."
Despite previous criticism and the widespread Bud Light backlash, Mulvaney seems undeterred by all these. She continues to share her gender transition journey with the world. On the other hand, critics appear determined to boycott the alcoholic beverage maker.
