The US Elections 2024 is near as Sen. Bernie Sanders gave President Joe Biden his endorsement for reelection.
Sanders previously rivaled Biden for the Democratic nomination during the 2020 elections. In the past, the Senator of Vermont also criticized Biden for his policies. But this time, he supports the bid of the Democratic leader to pursue his second term in the White House.
US Elections 2024: Bernie Sanders Endorses Biden Reelection
As per a report by Associated Press News, Sander confirmed to the news outlet that he supports the reelection bid of Biden.
His confirmation came after Biden announced his plans to run second term despite the poll results, suggesting that both Democrats and Republicans are no longer in favor of his reelection. A CBS News poll says that most people are concerned with his age. The current President of the United States (POTUS) is already 80 years old.
Sanders, who was once the rival of Biden, warned against the White House comeback of former US President Donald Trump or the victory of other Republicans, Fox News reports.
The Democrat Senator states, "The last thing this country needs is a Donald Trump or some other right-wing demagogue." He adds that they will "try to undermine American democracy or take away a woman's right to choose, or not address the crisis of gun violence, or racism, sexism or homophobia."
With all that said, Sanders says he will "do everything [he] can to see the president is reelected." In other words, he will support Biden as he aims to continue his term in the White House. However, AP News notes that he did not disclose his role in the upcoming reelection campaign. The Senator says it is still too early to tell. But based on his remarks, it seems that he will take on a massive role in the 2024 bid.
Bernie Sanders Forgoes Presidential Run in 2024
It is worth noting that Sanders is a two-time presidential candidate. He ran for the top post in 2016 and 2020. In the latter, he is a strong contender in the Democratic presidential primary.
But things have changed. Sanders has confirmed that he will not again run for the presidency in 2024. Instead, he would support Biden's reelection bid, bidding farewell to his third run for the White House for the elections next year. CBS News notes that at age 81, it seems like Sanders would no longer vie for the presidency.
When asked if he would seek reelection as Senator of Vermont, he answered without ruling out anything for now. He says, "people in Vermont have not been asking that, only the media here in Washington."
