In the wake of Don Lemon and CNN parting ways, "The View" co-host Sunny Hostin came forward to defend her long-time "friend."
The CNN mainstay host, Lemon, announced that he was "fired" by the network, whereas the management says that they have "parted ways." His departure comes minutes after Tucker Carlson exits Fox News.
The View Co-Host Sunny Hostin Defends Don Lemon
People Magazine reports that "The View's" Hostin, who has been friends with Lemon for 20 years, came to his defense after the CNN host parted ways with his network.
She previously worked with Lemon as they used to be colleagues at CNN. The host even disclosed that their offices were facing each other during that time. Hostin said that she does not "believe - in my experience with him - that he's a misogynist."
Instead, the 54-year-old "The View" host believes that Lemon actually "loves women." To be more precise, the former colleague of the "fired" CNN host notes that "he loves his mother. He loved his sister. He loves me." She also says he loves one of her co-hosts, Joy Behar.
And from there, Behar also came in defense of the former CNN host, saying that Lemon has been fighting against bigotry. But she admits that he previously said "some dumb things."
Hostin then responded to point out that Lemon apologized for his previous remarks. She also admitted that his long-time friend and former colleague blurted out remarks that were both "sexist" and "ageist."
According to The Daily Mail, one of its previous missteps of Lemon includes a controversial comment on the Republican presidential aspirant Nikki Haley. The ex-CNN host says that she is already past her "prime."
Sunny Hostin: Unfair to Compare Tucker Carlson and Jon Lemon
While Hostin reiterates that Lemon has apologized for his remarks, she highlights that Tucker Carlson of Fox News never did so. With that, she then argues that it was unfair for people to compare the firing of Lemon and the exit of Carlson, which coincidentally happened on the same day, which is, indeed, a huge development for cable news.
The long-time friend of the former CNN host says, "This is a false equivalency!"
Meanwhile, one of the hosts of "The View," Whoopi Goldberg, also weighed in on the situation. As per Fox News, she finds it odd that CNN transferred Lemon to the morning time slot to co-host with two female personalities amid allegations of outright misogyny. The award-winning actress further disclosed that she is friends with the "fired" CNN host.
Lemon has been with CNN for roughly 17 years before his departure. He used to host a late-night show, "Tonight with Don Lemon," before transferring to the morning time slot.
