On Wednesday, Apr. 26, at the Whitehouse, President Joe Biden and South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol announced the new agreement to put off North Korea's aggression in a joint conference called the "ironclad" alliance between the two countries. In order to fulfill the goal, the agreement includes the US commitment to deploy a nuclear-armed submarine in South Korea for the first time since the early 1980s.
"The alliance formed in war and has flourished in peace," Biden said White House. "Our mutual defense treaty is iron clad, and that includes our commitment to extend a deterrence - and that includes the nuclear threat, the nuclear deterrent," he added.
In the same press conference, South Korean President Yook said the new deal between the two countries represented "unprecedented expansion and strengthening" of the bilateral strategy."
"President Biden has reaffirmed his ironclad commitment to extended deterrence for the Republic of Korea," Yoon said.
Previously, North Korea was reportedly testing weapons. Later on, the country announced a recent breakthrough in its pursuit of solid-fuel intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBM) called the Hwasong-18 missile.
N. Korea leader Kim Jong Un along with his wife, young daughter, and sister Kim Yo Jong, supervised the event.
