A city council candidate reported that someone mysteriously dumped hundreds of pounds of cooked pasta have been in the New Jersey woods.
The authorities are now investigating the culprit behind the mysterious illegal dumping of pasta, which includes spaghetti and ziti.
Hundreds of Pounds of Pasta Dumped in New Jersey Woods
According to The New York Times, a city council candidate, Nina Jachnowitz, normally receives various complaints from the community, such as illegally dumped trash and the use of fireworks.
But this time around, the complaint she received surprised her. A woman reported to her that "[there is] a pile of pasta dumped on the side of the stream."
From there, she proceeded to head to the crime scene, and much to her surprise, she was welcomed with a colossal bulk of cooked pasta. Jachnowitz saw hundreds of pounds of noodles near a stream of the New Jersey woods. It was in various types, including macaroni and spaghetti.
NBC New York reports that the illegal dump only includes bare pasta. There was no spaghetti sauce or meatballs in sight.
Jochnowitz estimates that the staggering bulk of pasta near the stream is between 300 and 500 pounds.
The New York Times notes that theories suggest a caterer must have experienced a last-minute cancellation. Thus, it had to dispose of that much pasta. Another speculation proposes that a football team should have shown up at a restaurant tasked to cook their meals.
However, Jachnowitz believes that the culprit is none of these two. She says, "It was not a business." Instead, she further speculated that it was a resident after having a conversation with the family member of the potential suspect.
As of writing, the person behind the pasta dumping remains a mystery. It has yet to be determined why someone decided to leave behind a bulk of macaroni, ziti, and spaghetti.
Illegal Dumping Problem in New Jersey
The community advocate notes that people usually dump their trash in the area. But most of the time, it includes bulky furniture and other construction materials.
According to ABC 7 New York, the illegal dumping of bulk garbage in Old Bridge has a persistent problem in the community. Jachnowitz disclosed that financial problems force some residents to find ways to get rid of their enormous items rather than spending money for bulk pick-up.
One of the solutions that residents pursue involves illegally dumping their furniture and other bulky garbage in the woods. Some bystanders share that they have seen all sorts of secretly dumped items, from grills to televisions.
For the pasta incident, the ABC local affiliate notes that the Department of Public Works has already hauled hundreds of pounds of pasta near the stream. It reportedly took them over an hour to successfully clean the noodle mess.
