President Barack Obama has yet to fill his Cabinet for his second term in office and people are already discussing the 2016 presidential election. Nancy Pelosi, D-CA, told supporters at an event in Little Rock, Ark, who she was hoping to vote for in 2016.
"I pray that Hillary Clinton decides to run for president of the United States," Pelosi said according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette. "Nobody has been first lady and senator and now secretary of state. Putting everything aside that she is a woman, she'd be the best qualified person that we've seen [in recent years]."
Pelosi was adamant that she had no insider knowledge of Clinton's intentions for 2016, repeatedly saying she has "no knowledge except my prayers," according to the Arkansas Democrat-Gazette.
Clinton ran in the 2008 Democratic primary ultimately bowing out as Obama won the nomination. If Clinton were to get the nomination in 2016, she would be the first woman to win the nomination for president. Being a pioneering woman is something that Pelosi knows a little about, she was the first woman to serve as Speaker of the House.
"It's tough. You talk about the glass ceiling. This is the marble ceiling," Pelosi told USA Today while discussing what it was like to become the first female Speaker of the House. "Women can handle power at any level, they can breathe air at this altitude."
Pelosi went on to tell the audience at the Clinton School of Public Service about what a step forward for women of the world it would be if a woman were elected president.
"Think of the message it sends to women of the world," Pelosi said. "The most powerful figure in the world is a woman, and she also happens to be the most qualified for the job."
Pelosi's prayers have yet to be answered, Clinton has said nothing about her political intentions for 2016. As it is only 2013 Clinton still has plenty of time to make a decision one way or the other.
