A formerly homeless California man became a local hero after leaving a job interview he was applying for to rescue a baby on a runaway stroller bound to go into traffic.

The man, identified as Ron Nessman, had just left a job interview at an Applebee's restaurant when he saw a runaway baby stroller on its way into traffic. He immediately sprang into action, sprinting toward the stroller and stopping it before it got to the roadway, saving the child from being injured or, worse, killed.

Following the heart-racing incident, Nessman also landed the job he was interviewed for, his first in the last few years. In a statement during an interview, the California man said that he did not even have time to think about the situation when he saw the runaway baby stroller, as per The Guardian.

Nessman has been unhoused for the last eight years and was reportedly living with his sister in the months prior. He was in desperate need of work then, so he decided to interview at the Applebee's restaurant in San Bernardino County.

The incident began when a woman stopped on a nearby car wash's driveway and loaded her great-nephew into a stroller. Then, powerful winds blew the baby away from her grasp, which she chased after but fell doing so.

The incident was captured on video that showed Nessman stopping the runaway stroller with his right hand as it approached the nearest traffic lane. He then turned the stroller around and wheeled it up the driveway back to the woman who fell.

In a statement, Nessman said that she saw the woman fall and felt bad for her, saying he has nephews and nieces that he could not imagine losing that way. According to CBS News, the California man is a former truck driver who recently moved to Hesperia to reconnect with his family.

An unfortunate and tragic heartbreak sent Nessman spiraling into homelessness. It started when his girlfriend passed away in 2018. He said that her death came so suddenly that he did not want to do anything with his life.

Nessman said that when he saw the baby stroller rolling into traffic, he would be unable to live with himself if he did nothing and only watched. He later said that he was glad he realized this early and was able to save the child.

When he realized he wanted to improve his life, he began working on turning himself around. He said that his sister helped him out and has always been there for him, said the Daily Mail.
