North Carolina cows helped police pursue a fleeing suspect who attempted to evade capture in a traffic stop, according to the officers.
The Town of Boone Police Department shares a bizarre twist wherein a heroic herd of cows assisted them in chasing a suspect.
Cows in North Carolina Help Police Pursue Suspect
According to USA Today, Boone Police Department officers were dealing with a routine traffic stop. However, their suspect escaped the scene by driving his vehicle away from the authorities. After fleeing the scene using his car, the suspect reportedly tried to escape arrest by running on foot away from the eyes of law enforcement.
The police say the suspect, Joshua Minton, left behind his automobile in Watauga Country. And to escape the authorities, he ran to the rural areas to evade arrest, according to the officers.
Minton initially successfully escaped the eyes of the police officers after running away on foot. The authorities blamed the "suspect's fast and reckless driving." Thus, they failed to see when he fled away.
However, in a shocking twist, a heroic herd of cows entered the picture. The North Carolina law enforcement narrates that the domesticated mammals helped locate the fleeing suspect, leading them "directly to where the suspect was hiding."
The Boone police posted about the chase incident in a Facebook post, saying that "apparently cows do not want suspected criminals loitering in their pasture."
In the same press release, the Town of Boone Police Department took the opportunity to thank the herd of cows for assisting their officers in a recent chase.
Traffic Stop Suspect Faces Multiple Charges
The suspect, Minton, now faces multiple charges after law enforcement arrested him. His charges include driving with a revoked license and one count of felony flee or eluding arrest with a motor vehicle. Besides these two, the authorities also charged him with disorderly conduct.
As per ABC News, the suspect, which cows helped get arrested, received a secured $20,000 bond. Milton is scheduled to go back to court in the next few months, or on June 28, to be exact, to face these charges against him in Watauga County.
After the incident, the police department is now considering "incorporating a Bovine Tracking Unit" into its law enforcement, Fox News Online reports. However, before doing so, they still want to examine several factors, including its cost-effectiveness compared to K-9 dogs.
The cows who guided the police in their pursuits of a traffic stop suspect seemingly show that beneath the calm exterior of these domesticated mammals lies courage.
