These days wherein digitalization has taken over, privacy and security have become paramount concerns for users from various parts of the world. And as such, the need for enhanced protection has never been this crucial. With that in mind, WhatsApp has rolled out a new feature that allows users to protect their messages or conversation with top-notch security.

Engadget said the Meta-owned message service dished out a new feature named Chat Lock. Meta says the new security feature on WhatsApp lets users secure their "most intimate conversations behind one more layer of security." The tech giant further notes that the privacy option is best for those who occasionally let their close friends or family members borrow their phones.

With the new enabled, these folks no longer need to worry that their peers or family members would see their private messages. It will be protected with an added layer of security, which requires either biometrics or a password to access.

Sky News reports that the Meta Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Mark Zuckerberg confirmed the new WhatsApp feature in his recent Facebook post. He touts that the new privacy option should make users' conversations more private than ever.

Meanwhile, WhatsApp wants to expand the new feature in the coming weeks or months. Engadget notes that developers of the messaging service hint at possible upgrades to the privacy option.

Soon enough, users could start creating custom passwords specifically for each conversation. On top of that, the feature might soon apply to multiple devices. The new Chat Lock option has begun rolling out to WhatsApp users, giving them the peace of mind that their private conversations remain secure.

Users can enable a lock for individual chats or multiple conversations to access this new privacy option. Once locked, these chats will require an authentication process to gain access, ensuring that only authorized users can read the messages within.

It lets users make their conversation private as they are locked in another folder, which could only be accessible using biometrics, such as fingerprint or facial recognition. If you prefer the old-school way, use a password instead.

Besides locking behind conversations, it also hides notifications for locked chats. The app will no longer display message previews, giving users an added confidentiality level.
