50 Cent Leaves Shady/Aftermath To Become An Independent Artist: 'I Am Excited To Enter This New Era'

Curtis Jackson, better known as 50 Cent, has announced he is parting ways with Universal Music Group's Interscope Records and Eminem's Shady/Aftermath.

The rapper made his music scene debut with "Get Rich or Die Tryin'" in 2003. 50 Cent plans to release a fifth album as an independent artist, the Boston Herald reports.

50 Cent released the following statement about his departure:

"I have had great success to date with Shady/Aftermath/Interscope and I'd like to thank Eminem and Dr. Dre for giving me an incredible opportunity," 50 Cent said in a statement. "I've learned so much from them through the years. I am excited to enter this new era where I can carry out my creative vision."

Though there have been many reports claiming 50 Cent and Eminem have bumped heads in the past, the fellow rapper had nothing but kinds words in his statement.

"Both myself and Shady Records are grateful to have had the chance to play a part in 50's career," Eminem said in a statement. "Shady simply would not be what it is without 50 Cent. I've developed a great friendship with 50 over the years, and that's not going to change. We know 50 will have success in his new situation, and we remain supporters of both him and G-Unit."

The rapper's newest album titled "Animal Ambition" will be released June 3. 50 Cent will also be launching a new "Star Wars" inspired line for his SMS Audio headphones this spring.

"I've been a fan of Star Wars since I was a kid, so working with Lucasfilm to create this line of headphones was a really cool experience," said 50 Cent, CEO of SMS Audio, in a news release. "Star Wars has a huge following of dedicated fans and I'm excited to welcome them into the SMS Audio family."
