The Metropolitan Police in London is facing widespread criticism after its officers were seen fatally shooting two young dogs, Marshall and Millions, after receiving a report of an alleged attack.

Marshall and Millions' Alleged Attack

The incident began on May 7 when the two young bulldogs allegedly attacked a woman and the police were called for assistance. Met Police arrived at the scene and claimed that the animals' "aggressive behavior" was of concern and argued that they were a threat to the officers.

However, some reports later said the woman only got caught up in the least of the two dogs and was not seriously injured. It was also discovered that the woman did not want the police to be involved in the incident, as per 8List.

Met Police did intervene in the matter and were able to track down the owner of the two dogs, identified as Louie Turnbull, who was homeless. A later viral video showed the encounter between Turnbull, his two young dogs, and seven armed police officers.

The homeless man could be seen in distress as the police demanded that he surrender his dogs to them. Marshall and Millions were leashed at the time, but police quickly shot the older dog after he barked a little closely at one officer.

Turnbull then tried to pull his injured three-year-old dog closer to him, but the police officers responded by hitting him with a taser. The other officers, meanwhile, tried to catch nine-month-old Millions, who was crying in distress. Police then shot the younger dog in the back of the head.

Criminally Charging the Dogs' Owner

Following the altercation, Met Police took Turnbull into custody, and he appeared in court on May 9, facing charges of being the owner of a dog that was supposedly dangerously out of control, according to the Daily Mail.

Witnesses who saw the initial incident with the woman said that she got caught up in the leads of the two dogs, was not attacked, and was not seriously injured. Animal Rising also released a statement regarding the incident.

The group said that they wanted to hold the Met Police accountable for their horrific actions against Marshall and Millions. There is now a petition that was set up in the wake of the brutal killings of the dogs, with more than 34,000 people already calling for action against the department, said the Doncaster Free Press.

Nearly a week after the incident, the homeless man held a vigil for his two late dogs, attended by some 200 members of the British animal activist Animal Rising movement. Many people there lit vegan candles and chanted: "No justice, no peace, they're killing dogs on our streets."

A Filipino artist, Mary Mae Dacanay, also created leaf artworks in honor of Marshall and Millions and the call for justice for their untimely and brutal deaths.
