Oklahoma City dealt Miami a 112-95 loss when they met on Jan. 29. Thunder superstar Kevin Durant shined with 33 points and simply couldn't be stopped by Miami. Thursday's rematch won't be any easier for the Heat, either, with the expected return of Thunder point guard Russell Westbrook.
Westbrook, who's been sidelined since late December after undergoing a third procedure on his injured right knee, participated in his first full practice on Wednesday. Barring any setbacks, the three-time All-Star should see minutes on the court against Miami, according to the Associated Press.
"I thought he had a good practice today," Thunder coach Scott Brooks said on Wednesday, via the Associated Press. "We went pretty hard, no question. We did a lot of things in transition, we did a lot of halfcourt. We did a lot of defensive drills, and he was able to participate in all of our drills. ...
"With Russell coming back, it adds a dynamic player on both ends of the floor. Russell doesn't get enough credit for this, but his defensive toughness and his ability to get to the free-throw line - those are the things that we like in addition to all the other things that he brings."
Durant solidified his status as an NBA superstar during his teammate's absence, helping Oklahoma City (43-12) win 20 of 27 games while averaging 35.0 points per game without Westbrook.
Miami, meanwhile, has won six of their seven games played so far in February. The Heat (38-14) head into Thursday's contest looking for a fourth straight win on the heels of a 117-106 win on Tuesday against the Dallas Mavericks.
