John Wick 5 is in early development, according to the Lionsgate big boss.
Amid the staggering popularity of the titular assassin, John Wick, Keanu Reeves is set to return for its fifth installment, which is now in the works.
'John Wick 5' is Now Under Development
With the latest confirmation about the development of 'John Wick 5,' it appears that the journey of the renowned assassin prevails.
According to Comicbook.com, the Motion Picture Group Chair Joe Drake confirmed during the Lionsgate earnings call with investors for the second quarter that they are developing the fifth installment of the 'John Wick' film series.
He confirmed that Lionsgate is now developing three upcoming 'John Wick' offerings, apart from its first-ever spinoff Ballerina. It includes the 'John Wick 5," as well as a 'The Continental' TV series.
As per Hypebeast, the fifth iteration of the blockbuster is set to grace the much-awaited comeback of its director Chad Stahelski. Not to mention the return of Reeves as the sensational assassin, Wick.
Drake also confirmed that they are working to expand the offerings of the successful franchise. They are exploring spin-offs and TV shows beyond AAA video games. But for now, he notes that they are officially working on 'Ballerina,' 'John Wick 5' and 'The Continental.'
'John Wick' Franchise Blockbuster Success
The fourth John Wick film, which debuted last March 2023, ended up as a critical and commercial success.
Meanwhile, the franchise, known for its stylish action sequences and memorable characters, has already garnered more than $1 billion at the global box office.
According to IGN, Box Office Mojo's data shows that the entire assassin series, comprising four blockbuster films, has surpassed the $1 billion mark. The latest installation, 'John Wick: Chapter 4,' amassed a staggering $425.8 million globally, taking the sixth spot in the highest-grossing ranking of films in 2023.
Its first-ever film is quite impressive too with more than $86 million gross when it hit the theaters in 2014. On the other hand, the sequel raked a record-breaking $171.5 million, whereas the third blockbuster, 'John Wick: Chapter 3 - Parabellum' surpassed the first two movies, flaunting global box office to the tune of $327.7 million.
The figures show the unrelenting success of the 'John Wick' franchise.
The Lionsgate chair, Drake, credited the success to the director of the blockbuster film, Chad Stahelski, its lead star, Keanu Reeves, as well as its producers, Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.
This time, no less than the Lionsgate chair confirmed that the 'John Wick 5' is already in the works.
