Billie Eilish hits back at criticisms over the changes in her fashion choices, from a boyish look to a feminine style transformation.
The Grammy-winning singer-songwriter recently faced criticism regarding her fashion choices. But despite the backlash, the resilient artist, known for her thought-provoking lyrics and unique persona, wasted no time in hitting back at the critics.
Billie Eilish Style Change From Boyish to Feminine
According to Straits Times, Eilish, who drastically evolved her styling over the years, shut down critics who call out feminine fashion choices these days. The 21-year-old immensely talented singer initially rocked oversized and baggy clothing, which she feels comfortable and confident wearing.
CBS News notes that Eilish addressed her baggy style in an ad for the Calvin Klein fashion brand in 2019. The singer, only 17 years old, says, "I never want the world to know everything about me. I mean, [that is] why I wear big, baggy clothes."
But in recent months, the Grammy winner noticeably leaned toward a more feminine and form-fitting look. It was the stark opposite of her previous style, which some dubbed boyish.
In 2021, Eilish told Elle magazine that her style transformation, which started staying clear of the baggy silhouette in favor of form-fitting dresses, affected her fans. She reveals losing roughly 100,000 Instagram followers.
More recently, the Grammy winner showed up at The 2023 Met Gala at The Metropolitan Museum of Art with an apparent style transformation. CBS says the 21-year-old songwriter flaunted a more feminine outfit, sporting a black lace gown.
And as such, her recent fashion choices have led to a backlash from some fans and bystanders. They accused her of selling out and of not being true to herself.
Billie Eilish Slams Critics of Her Style Evolution
Eilish shuts down critics of her style transformation in a recent Instagram Story over the weekend. As per USA Today, she slams the hate she received over the years as she adopted a more feminine look.
In her IG story, Eilish pointed out that her baggy style previously received criticism too. The singer says, "I spent the first five years of my career getting absolutely obliterated by you fools for being boyish and dressing how I did (and) constantly being told I'd be hotter if I acted like a woman."
She says, "Now when I feel comfortable enough to wear anything remotely feminine or fitting, I changed and am a sellout." She called out her hater, telling them to "let women exist!"
Eilish's comments have been praised by fans and critics alike, who have commended her for speaking out against criticisms of her self-expression.
