According to Aljazeera, several drones have attacked the Russian capital city; the Moscow mayor told the state news outlet.
The attack took place in the early morning hours. It reportedly involved several drones, damaging many residential buildings across the capital. The capital city major, Sergei Sobyanin, says the "drone attack caused minor damage to several buildings."
Fortunately, the Moscow mayor assures that the latest drone strike in the residential area left no casualties. Sobyanin confirms, "No one has been seriously injured so far."
ABC News Go reports that the Moscow mayor told state media that local emergency services have arrived at the location of the drone attack. Meanwhile, the Moscow region governor Andrei Vorobyow reports that they have shot down several drones as they approached the Russian capital.
The attack comes at a time of heightened tensions between Russia and Ukraine. The recent drone attack, which damaged several residential buildings, is the latest in a series of incidents that have raised concerns about Moscow's security.
Russia's Defense Ministry Blames Kyiv for Drone 'Terrorist Attack'
As of writing, it has yet to be determined who is responsible for launching the drone attacks in the residential area of the Russian city. However, as per a recent report by BBC, the Russian Defense Ministry blamed Kyiv for the "terrorist attack" in Moscow, which involved roughly eight drones.
The ministry states via Telegram that they have intercepted all of the drones. It says, "Three of them were suppressed by electronic warfare, lost control, and deviated from their intended targets."
On top of that, the ministry reports that "another five drones were shot down by the Pantsir-S surface-to-air missile system in the Moscow region." BBC notes that state media estimates that the attack includes roughly 30 drones, which authorities say have fallen into residential buildings upon interception.
Moscow residents took to social media to share their experience amid the drone attack in the city. Most say they heard a loud blast, which shook their windows. Kyiv has yet to comment on the incident. However, it is worth noting that the Ukraine Military Intelligence Head, General Kyrylo Budanov, warned Russia of retaliation over the missile strikes that hit the Ukraine city.
