Team USA plays Canada on Friday in the Men's hockey semifinals of the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics. The game is scheduled for 12:00 p.m. ET. Watch the live stream via the link provided below.
USA earned a spot in the semifinal after a 5-2 win on Wednesday over the Czech Republic. Canada now stands in the way of the USA reaching the final, and American winger/center David Backes isn't at all surprised.
"We were destined and on a crash course against each other," Backes said after Wednesday's win, via Yahoo Sports. "Semifinals in a foreign land, we've traveled 5,000 miles to play each other and we share a long border against each other. That's great things about this tournament: In order to win it you're going to have to beat great competition."
While reaching the semifinals is an accomplishment, USA wants more.
"Obviously we came in here with one goal, and that's to win the gold," USA forward Paul Stastny said. "Kind of finish off what we started in 2010 and that round robin was our first step, this quarterfinal was our second step, and obviously Friday night is going to be our next step. We're looking at that first, knowing that it's going to be a tough game no matter what."
One of the storylines of the match is USA coach Dan Bylsma coaching against his star player in the NHL, Pittsburgh Penguins captain Sidney Crosby.
"I know prior to leaving we both wished each other luck, and now we're going to get that opportunity to go head to head, the Canadians versus the Americans," said Bylsma. "We will have a game plan, we will have preparations made and we're going to need 'em."
