Former president Donald Trump has raised over $6 million for his 2024 US presidential campaign since the news about his historical federal indictment broke.
Despite the cloud of legal uncertainty hanging over him, Trump's supporters have rallied around their embattled leader, demonstrating unwavering loyalty.
Trump Raises Over $6 Million for 2024 Presidential Campaign
According to NBC News, Trump's campaign war chest has grown exponentially, amassing a staggering $6 million in donations since the news of his federal indictment broke. The funding includes $4.5 million from online contributions.
Trump's campaign announced they received $2.1 million a few hours after his recent arraignment in Miami. As per a report by Politico, the former President raised the additional funding during his "candlelight dinner," which includes his top donors and campaign bundlers."
Given that, the overall funding of the ex-President is now to the tune of $6.6 million. The Trump campaign emphasized that the funding comes from the "steadfast support" of "grassroots Patriots."
Donald Trump's Legal Battle
The MAGA leader is facing 37 felony charges, in which he pleaded not guilty. These charges accused the former POTUS of illegally obtaining classified government documents and refusing to allow the government to recover these confidential files.
Trump's fundraising success is a sign that he remains popular among his supporters. Many of his supporters believe the indictment is politically motivated since the MAGA leader says the Biden administration is targeting him.
The South China Morning Post reports that a recent poll finds that most Republicans, roughly 81 percent, believe that the charges against Trump are politically motivated. However, President Joe Biden has consistently denied his involvement in the federal charges against his rival during the 2020 presidential race.
Trump's fundraising success shows he remains a powerful force in American politics. He is a polarizing figure but also has a large and enthusiastic following, making him a major contender in the 2024 race.
It is worth noting that other Republicans are challenging Trump's reelection, such as Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis and his former Vice President Mike Pence. However, recent polls show that the ex-POTUS still has the upper hand against them. Yet, the South China Morning Post notes that DeSantis, Trump's closest rival in the Republican race, has already amassed $85 million in funding.
DeSantis launched his presidential run last month in a glitchy Twitter live with Elon Musk. Trump slammed the glitch-ridden announcement as a "disaster," concluding that his whole campaign would be the same.
