During his speech, at an event for new military academy graduates, Vladimir explained the importance of Russia's triad of nuclear forces.

"The most important task here is the development of the nuclear triad, which is a key guarantee of Russia's military security and global stability," said the Russian leader via Reuters.

When it comes to the Sarmat missiles, Putin said that the first Sarmat launchers will be put on combat duty in the near future.

This just shows that Vladimir Putin is prepared to use the next-gen Sarmat ICBMs if needed.

Previously, the Russian president said that they are ready to use all means, such as nuclear weapons, to defend their territorial integrity in Ukraine.

As of writing, Putin hasn't announced any specific date and what could push Russia to really use the dangerous Sarmat ballistic missiles.

How Dangerous are Sarmat ICBMs?

Business Insider reported that the Sarmat ICBMs are dubbed "Satan 2" by the NATO forces.

It is considered to be among the most advanced modern weapons of the Russian government.

Measuring at around 112 feet long, the 211-ton ICBM can carry more than a dozen of nuclear warheads.

With this alone, the advanced Sarmat intercontinental ballistic missile can destroy entire cities.

Although it is quite large and needed to be launched from the ground, the Sarmat ICBM can easily reach its target as its range exceeds 6,835 miles.

This means that these next-generation intercontinental ballistic missiles can reach Europe or the United States.

"This truly unique weapon will strengthen the combat potential of our Armed Forces, reliably ensure the security of Russia from external threats," said Putin after successfully testing the Sarmat ICBMs back in April 2022.

The Russian leader added that the advanced ballistic missile can make their enemies think twice before threatening the country.
