Indian PM Narendra Modi Visits Joe Biden at White House
As per a report by NBC News, Indian Prime Minister Modi is visiting the White House for a highly anticipated meeting with the US President at the White House.
The eagerly awaited event promises to usher in a new chapter of collaboration, with both leaders aiming to expand their cooperation on various global issues, including countering China's growing global influence. NBC News notes that the Biden Administration has been intensifying its efforts to bolster ties with India and extend its global reach.
The National Security Council spokesperson John Kirby told reports that "we [do not] believe [there is] a partner that is more consequential to helping along those lines than India." He also discloses that the two leaders' meeting also dives into the ongoing conflict between Russia and Ukraine, specifically India's relationship with Moscow.
It is noteworthy that India remains neutral in the Russia and Ukraine war. The populous country has never called out the invasion. And in fact, it still purchases Russian oil, significantly extending a helping hand to Moscow despite the widespread sanctions from the West.
But despite that, the US and India are parallel on global issues like China's growing influence. According to Aljazeera, the meeting between Biden and Modi comes amid concerns about human rights in India. The President's fellow Democrats are pressuring Biden to bring up the rights situation in the region amid reports of attacks on minorities.
Although Biden plans to raise topics like the attacks on Muslims and other minorities in India, he has no plans to lecture the PM about it, White House National Security Advisor Jake Sullivan confirmed to the press.
Plant-Based Menu at the White House Dinner
According to the Associated Press (AP), India's state dinner menu at the White House includes plant-based meals, including stuffed mushrooms.
The Indian PM Modi is a vegetarian. And as such, the US first lady Jill Biden tapped no less than a chef that specializes in plant-based cuisine, chef Nancy Curtis, to help curate the menu for the much-awaited occasion.
The menu consists of mouth-watering salads marinated in corn, compressed watermelon, and millet. Other plant-based meals like saffron risotto and stuffed Portobello mushrooms are also available. And for a sumptuous dessert, guests can take a bite of a strawberry shortcake infused with cardamom and rose.
