Acting Special Agent in Charge Cheyvoryea Gibson presented the Fort Peck Tribes' Red Bird Woman Center/Children's Advocacy Center with the 2022 FBI Director's Community Leadership Award (DCLA) during a ceremony on June 22, 2023, in Poplar, Montana.
RBWC/CAC is the primary child victim services agency on the Fort Peck Indian Reservation in rural northeast Montana, serving all FBI child victims of sexual assault. The center provides frontline child and adult advocates to respond to calls of sexual abuse and assault. Advocates oftentimes will transport victims more than a hundred miles for Sexual Abuse Nurse Exams that can provide key physical evidence in these types of cases.
The center and its staff work closely with the FBI, creating space for case review, serving on two Bureau teams, and partnering on training.
"Each year, the FBI investigates thousands of crimes involving countless victims, including children," said Acting Special Agent in Charge Cheyvoryea Gibson. "Our objective is to pursue investigations against criminals and provide victims with the care and empathy they deserve. The FBI works effectively with its partners at the Red Bird Woman Center/Children's Advocacy Center to serve the community of the Fort Peck Reservation. For their dedicated service to the citizens of this reservation, the FBI proudly honors the center with the Director's Community Leadership Award."
The center was also honored at a ceremony for all 2022 DCLA recipients at FBI Headquarters in Washington, D.C., on May 5, 2023, with FBI Director Christopher Wray. Susan Parker, Program Finance Director & Child Advocacy Center Director, accepted the award on the center's behalf.
The DCLA was formally created in 1990 to honor individuals and organizations for their efforts in combating crime, terrorism, drugs, and violence in America. Recipients of this award are recognized for their service above and beyond the call of duty to help keep America and its residents safe and are selected based on nominations from each of the FBI's 56 field offices.
