Houston Texans safety Ed Reed underwent surgery last week, but hopes to be ready for training camp. The 34-year old had arthroscopic surgery to repair a labral tear in his hip, according to the Houston Chronicle.
"He'll miss the offseason program, and it's just something we'll have to work through," Texans coach Gary Kubiak said. "We'll get him healthy, and he should be fine."
Missing the organized team activities (OTAs) with the Texans hurts Reed as he tries to learn Kubiak's defense and build chemistry with his new teammates.
Reed, an 11-year veteran, signed a three-year, $15 million contract with Houston in March. Prior to signing, Reed earned nine Pro Bowls and a Super Bowl victory with the Baltimore Ravens.
Considered a premiere NFL safety, Reed dominated the secondary throughout his career and made life miserable for opposing quarterbacks looking to throw deep.
His 605 tackles, 61 interceptions and 13 touchdowns in his career make the first-round pick all but assured of a place in the NFL Hall of Fame.
