Google's AI chatbot, Bard, expressed a preference for Apple's iOS over Android, pointing out the advantages of iPhones over multiple aspects.
The AI-generated tool surprisingly listed several compelling reasons why it believes iPhones are the cream of the crop.
Google Bard AI Prefers Apple iOS Over Android
As per a report by Apple Insider, Bard has finally shared its take on the intense iPhone vs. Android war. It turns out that Google-owned AI prefers Apple's iOS to Android.
The Apple-focused news outlet asked Google's AI chatbot this prompt: "Which do you prefer: iOS or Android?" Bard gamely answered by weighing the pros and cons of the two rivaling mobile operating systems.
And Google's own AI tool shockingly favored Android arch-nemesis, the Cupertino-based tech giant's iOS for iPhones.
According to BGR, Google's Bard is a direct response to the viral ChatGPT AI. Bard debuted last May, while the latter saw the light of day in December last year.
Bard's preference for iOS is notable because Google is the developer of Android. However, the AI tool is a large language model (LLM), which relies on a massive dataset of text and code. And as such, it means that it has access to a vast amount of information about both iOS and Android. From there, it draws its own conclusions about which operating system is better.
To be more precise, Bard says, "I prefer iOS." But despite that, the AI tool stresses that "both operating systems have their own strengths and weaknesses."
Apple Insider notes that it already tried asking OpenAI's ChatGPT and Microsoft's Bing Chat about their preference, but they shrugged it off, saying they do not have an opinion.
iOS vs. Android: Here's What Google Bard Says
Bard listed some of the advantages of iOS over Android, such as its utter simplicity in design and top-notch security. It says that the pros of the iPhone software include "tight integration with other Apple products" and "more frequent software updates."
Besides its pros, the AI tool pointed out some of its cons. It includes limitations, such as less customizability and the slimmer options of apps in the App Store. Bard also stressed that iOS devices are generally more expensive.
But to be fair, Google's chatbot highlights the customizability of Android, a wide range of apps, and the affordability of devices running it. However, Bard was pretty frank, pointing out that Android's UI "can be less polished." And on top of that, it is less secure, according to Bard.
Bard's opinion is consistent with most sentiments. The New York Times reports that iOS delivers better privacy and security, whereas Android is accessible even at lower price points.
