A 12-year-old girl was among the wounded in the Bronx borough in a string of shootings across New York City over the Fourth of July weekend. It was reported the girl, whose name is being withheld, was struck by a stray bullet in the shoulder during a rash of gunfire on Eastburn Avenue Sunday night (July 2). Her 35-year-old aunt was also shot in the foot.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) also said a 23-year-old man was shot in the thigh during the incident.

All three were taken to St. Barnabas Hospital in a stable condition.

Sources said a fourth victim, a 22-year-old man, walked into the hospital with a gunshot wound to the toe following a separate shooting incident in the Mount Hope neighborhood.

Three men were also shot inside 400 Claremont Parkway, a residential building, early Monday morning (July 3). The building hosted a large party in it during the time of the shooting.

Other Fourth of July Weekend Shooting Incidents

A 15-year-old boy died after he was shot multiple times at a Manhattan park Saturday night (July 1). The teenager was at the basketball courts at Riverbank State Park in the Hamilton Heights neighborhood when he was shot. He was rushed to Mount Sinai Morningside Hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Another shooting took place in the Bronx Friday night (June 30) which left a five-year-old girl critically wounded while riding in a car with her family on East 214th Street, according to police.

Police alleged the shooting of the little girl was linked to a "homicide the night before" (June 29), when 26-year-old Justin Rodriguez was shot and killed nearby.

"I can assure you there will be closure in this case," NYPD Chief of Patrol John Chell told reporters. "We just promised Mom and Dad that we will close this case in short fashion."

There was also a shooting incident a week before when a 17-year-old boy was shot in the back during a gunfight near the Pearly Gates playground in Bronx's Westchester Square. The teenager's friends took him to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Police said no arrests have been made in relation to any of the shootings at this point, but the incidents are under investigation.
