U.S. President Joe Biden said that lawmakers should act on gun reforms to solve gun violence in the American nation.
On Tuesday, July 4, Biden talked about how mass shootings drastically affect the United States.
He said that gun violence is tearing apart the American communities. Because of this, he called on Republican lawmakers to act on gun reforms.
POTUS said that they should negotiate with fellow Democrats in the U.S. Congress to make it happen.
Joe Biden Asks Lawmakers to Act on Gun Reforms
Via Reuters' latest report, Joe Biden said that banning assault weapons and high-capacity mags is within their power.
The American leader explained that they should start requiring safe storage for guns, remove the immunity of gun manufacturers to make them liable, and enact universal background checks.
"Our nation has once again endured a wave of tragic and senseless shootings in communities across America," said Biden via The Guardian.
"Today, Jill and I grieve for those who have lost their lives and, as our nation celebrates Independence Day," added the American leader.
POTUS further stated that they are praying for the day when American communities are safe and free from gun violence.
Independence Day Mass Shooting
Five people were killed in a mass shooting in Southwestern Philadelphia.
Two minors-2 years old and 13 years old-were injured as well. The mass shooting happened on the eve of the Independence Day celebration.
According to authorities, the victims of the latest mass shooting were all males.
The suspect was using an AR-style rifle, wearing a bulletproof vest, and carrying a gun, as well as multiple ammunition magazines.
Aside from Philadelphia, more mass shootings happened across the United States during the Independence Day holiday.
In Texas, three people were killed in Fort Worth. Meanwhile, a total of five individuals were killed in Chicago; 33 were wounded during the shootout.
Police authorities in Kansas also announced that a mass shooting happened over the weekend, which led to the deaths of 11 people.
Because of the mass shootings on Independence Day, many experts warned that July 4 is the riskiest day for mass shootings in the U.S. calendar.
As of writing, the United States is still making efforts to prevent gun violence. But, with the current situation, more efforts from the government are really needed.
