Many users shared their disappointment when Elon Musk announced the new Twitter usage restrictions.
Although some of the billionaire's fans still defended his decision, it is clear that more consumers weren't happy with the change.
Here is Why There's Now Twitter Usage Restriction Warning
Others said that Elon Musk should stop trying to make Twitter a "pay-to-win" website by releasing limitations. Meanwhile, others want the social media giant to give them a heads-up before launching restrictions.
But Twitter explained that there's a reason why it can't provide a warning. According to Engadget's latest report, the new usage restrictions of Twitter surprised many users across the globe.
The social media platform finally explained why it didn't warn users before releasing the usage limitations.
"We temporarily limited usage to detect and eliminate bots and other bad actors that are harming the platform," said Twitter via its official blog post.
The social media giant added that if it provided advanced warnings revealing its restriction plan, malicious actors could change their strategy to evade detection and steal user data. Twitter further stated that its usage restrictions are used for the following reasons:
- To prevent manipulation of conversations on Twitter.
- To stop AI companies from scraping Twitter users' data to build new artificial intelligence systems.
Twitter's Usage Restriction
If you missed the recent announcement of Elon Musk, here are the exact usage restrictions he decided to implement:
- New unverified accounts can only access 300 posts per day.
- Unverified accounts can only see 600 posts a day.
- Verified accounts can read up to 6000 tweets per day.
As of writing, it is still being determined if the new usage restrictions will finally push many users to transfer to other platforms.
But one thing is for sure. The new Twitter restrictions will make it hard for the social media giant to gain advertisers' trust.
