As per a report by The Verge, the renowned note-taking app is making major changes to its operations, trimming down a significant portion of its US workforce.

The company, well-known for its user-friendly interface and convenient features, has recently laid off over a hundred employees. Evernote's last round of job cuts let go of roughly 129 US-based employees last February.

The new owner of the note-taking service, Bending Spoons, explained that the unprofitable nature of the platform could have been more sustainable in the long term. And as such, they had to let go of some staffers.

The Verge notes in the same report that Bending Spoons took over Evernote last November 2022. The Evernote Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Franceso Patarnello says the deal comprises exciting things to come, such as new features, which rely on the "app expertise" and "propriety technologies" of the Milan-based app developer.

The Evernote CEO announced in a recent blog post that they already reached out to their employees regarding the latest round of layoffs for their US and Chile-based staff on July 5. Patarnello discloses that these employees are getting a "substantial separation package. He goes into details on the package inclusion, such as "16 weeks of salary," "performance bonus," and "one year of health insurance coverage." On top of that, it also includes further assistance for workers who are on a visa.

The Evenote big boss thanked the laid-off employees for their "efforts and commitment." He also wished them "the very best" as they move forward with their careers.

As Evernote lays off most of its US and Chile employees, the note-taking app has changed its operations to focus more on Europe, where it sees great growth potential. This move surprises many, as the app has been synonymous with Silicon Valley since its inception.

According to Engadget, the Milan-based firm Bending Spoons plans to relocate most of Evernote's operations to Europe.

Bending Spoons boss Luca Ferrari told San Francisco Gate, "Our plans for Evernote are as ambitious as ever: Going forward, a growing, dedicated team based in Europe will continue to assume ownership of the Evernote product."

The renowned note-taking app debuted in 2008, offering an advanced option for power users. However, around 2015 it began to lose its luster as similar apps sprouted like mushrooms, stealing its spotlight.
