Ukrainian forces have been using drones for traditional reconnaissance and directing artillery fire but have also modified them to conduct direct attacks on Russian infantry.

According to The Guardian's latest report, the Russian air defense forces and fleet shot down Ukrainian drones over the Crimean port of Sevastopol.

Russia said that a total of nine UAVs (unmanned aerial vehicles) were repelled on July 16, as reported by France 24

Two of these drones were taken down while flying over the sea. Meanwhile, the other five drones were intercepted by the Russian military using electronic warfare forces.

The remaining two drones were repelled on the outer shore. Because of Ukraine's alleged drone attacks, the Russian military decided to suspend Maritime transport, as well as some passenger ferries. Operations were halted for a few hours early in the morning.

Mikhail Razvozhayev, the Moscow-installed governor of Sevaspotol, confirmed that there were no casualties or damages.

"No objects, either in the city or in the water area were damaged," the Russian official said.

As of writing, the Ukrainian government hasn't confirmed if they really did send the nine drones destroyed by Russia.

Paramilitary civil formations are the successor to the voluntary territorial defense units that emerged in the months before Russia's military invasion of Ukraine to train civilians in combat tactics.

Previously, Ukraine also took down 20 Russian drones after UAVs attacked Kyiv. These Russian drones, which were made by Iran, were shot down on Thursday, July 13.

Unfortunately, these UAVs injured four people; two of them were hurt by shrapnel while the remaining two suffered from smoke inhalation during fires.

The Russian drones also killed an elderly woman. However, Kyiv Mayor Vitali Klitschko said that the main reason for the lady's death is still undetermined as she died in a fire overnight.

Ruslan Kravchenko, the governor of the Kyiv region, criticized the Russian drone attacks, saying that the Russian terrorists resorted to a mass attack again.
