According to Fox News' latest report, the TikTok wasp gasoline extermination is popular because it's very easy to do.

All you need is a glass jar with gasoline in it. After that, just put the jar in the wasp nest. This will trap all the pests inside as they try to escape.

However, Prof. Ben Hottel, a technical services manager and entomologist at pest control company Orkin, warned that using gasoline to kill wasps and other insects could get you in trouble.

This is because gasoline could be illegal, based on the guidelines of the EPA (Environmental Protection Agency).

"Using gasoline, which would not be registered to kill insects with, would actually be illegal," said Hottel.

The entomologist explained that products used for insect extermination should be registered with EPA.

Aside from being illegal, Hottel added that using gasoline could lead to accidents since this substance is highly flammable.

Before you try getting rid of wasps, make sure that you're not killing bees. You can differentiate them since honey bees have fuzzy hairs, thicker legs, and fuller bodies.

On the other hand, wasps have shinier bodies and lack fuzzy hairs. Most of them have longer limbs as well.

If you're sure that the insect you're dealing with is wasps, you can now start getting rid of them.

But, killing them is not the best option. Plant Care Today provided natural ways how you can get rid of wasps without exterminating them with dangerous chemicals:

  • Try setting up a fake wasp nest. This will fool these insects into thinking that your area already has a wasp colony.
  • Avoid leaving sugary food or water outside.
  • Don't leave open spaces that wasps can use to build their nests.
  • Since wasps are attracted to sweet smells, avoid using strong perfumes.
  • Wasps are also carnivores. So, avoid feeding your pets in an open area.
