U.S. President Joe Biden should not intervene with the possible UPS strike, as warned by Teamsters President Sean O'Brien.
The labor union's official shared his opinion on Sunday, July 16, asking the U.S. government not to get involved with the possible protest of unionized UPS employees.
UPS Strike: Biden Should Not Intervene With Unionized Workers
According to Fortune's latest report, around 340,000 UPS workers are expected to have a new contract with the American delivery company.
As of writing, negotiations between the two sides are still at a standstill; with no actions for more than a week now.
The UPS is expected to have a final decision regarding the new contract on July 31, the deadline provided by the union.
The Teamsters Union said that UPS workers should reach a deal with the delivery business. The organization added that if this doesn't happen, a massive worker strike could happen.
Since there's a chance that the Biden Administration will try to get involved, O'Brien asked the White House to not intervene with the issue.
"[In] my neighborhood where I grew up in Boston if two people had a disagreement and you had nothing to do with it - you just kept walking," said the Teamsters boss.
"We don't need anybody getting involved in this fight," added Sean via AP News.
Why the UPS Strike is Concerning
NPR reported that if the Teamsters Union decided to push its UPS strike, it could drastically affect the U.S. economy.
Just imagine what will happen if 340,000 UPS workers decided to walk out to protest against the American delivery company.
Experts said that it would be the largest strike conducted against one company in U.S. history.
They added that the strike will take a huge toll on the UPS business. In 2021, the United Parcel Service covered the majority of the parcel delivery market; 37% of it.
Because of this, numerous analysts warned that if the unionized UPS worker strike really does happen, the delivery company's competitors will not be able to accommodate the parcel delivery backlogs.
