A youngster was injured after being attacked with acid at a park in Detroit, Michigan, and a 12-year-old girl has been charged in connection with the incident, CBS News reported.

Reportedly, the incident that took place on July 9 was sparked by a dispute that took place on the playground between a group of young women.

The Wayne County Prosecutor's Office said the unnamed teenager faces one count each of assault with the intent to inflict grievous bodily injury and felonious violence. She was also told to stay away from Dearia Summers, the 11-year-old girl who was the victim of the crime.

An initial hearing was held last week, and the judge there set the bail at $10,000 with tether. This means the kid will have to wear a monitor while she is out on bond.

Prosecutor Kym Worthy agrees this case is highly disturbing. "This is an extremely troubling set of allegations. Instant horrible [decision-making] can have lifelong effects on others. There is no excuse for this," she said in a statement.

Additional Charges Against the Suspect's Mother?

CBS Detroit reports that the mother of the victim, Dominique Summers, has said that she wishes more charges would be filed against the mother of the suspect.

Summers told CBS Detroit, "It was a nightmare because she came running through the door and smoke was coming off her body, and holes were pierced all through her clothes." Summers said she placed her kid in a cold shower until the ambulance came after calling for help, citing a mom's intuition.

The accused kid's mother should be held accountable, according to Summers. "That's where it should've started ... I know that a 12-year-old wouldn't come up with something like that on their own. To even think of something so evil to do."

Alleged Motive for Acid Attack

The victim's grandma, Debra Golston, has set up a GoFundMe to pay for her granddaughter's medical bills. According to her, Deaira, her brothers, and her cousins were at a park when a fight broke out between another girl and the cousins.

Golston claims that the 12-year-old's "mother brought acid to the park for her child to retaliate." While Deaira and her siblings had left the park, she returned because she had misplaced her purse. That was when the acid was thrown at her, according to the grandma.

The second and third-degree burns Dearia suffered from required four days in the hospital, she claims. The GoFundMe page adds, "She is lucky to be alive but will need ongoing care to fully heal from all the wounds she incurred."
