Las Vegas Metropolitan Police served a search warrant on deceased rapper Tupac Shakur's home in Henderson, Nevada, concerning the musician's murder in 1996.

In a statement, the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department (LVMPD) said that the search warrant was served on July 17, 2023, as part of the ongoing investigation into Tupac's homicide but did not add further details.

Tupac Shakur Murder Investigation Development

Authorities did not disclose the home location that the police department was searching in connection to the murder case. It comes nearly three decades after the rapper was shot multiple times in Las Vegas while leaving a boxing match at the MGM Grand Hotel on the Las Vegas Strip.

At the time of the musician's fatal shooting, he was inside a car alongside Death Row Records CEO Suge Knight. A few moments later, as per CNN, a white Cadillac pulled up beside their vehicle and began shooting out of the back window.

Despite the high-profile murder of Tupac, law enforcement authorities have never arrested or charged anyone about the case. This was partially because witnesses refused to cooperate with law enforcement personnel.

A retired Los Angeles police detective, Greg Kading, alleged in 2019 that Tupac's murder was already solved after Duane Davis, also known as Keffe D, confessed his involvement in the fatal shooting of the musician. It happened while he was being questioned about the murder of Biggie Smalls.

The investigation comes as Tupac posthumously received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame last month in honor of his contributions to the arts and his activism for racial equality.

California also unanimously voted to name a stretch of MacArthur Boulevard between Grand Avenue and Van Buren Avenue in May. It was the area where the rapper once lived and was from then on named "Tupac Shakur Way, according to CBS News.

Fatal Shooting of the Rapper

Tupac is most known for influencing the hip-hop genre of music and amassing a global fan base, selling more than 75 million records globally. He also won six Grammy Award nominations despite only having a recording career of five years.

The rapper's death came amid a feud with his rap rival, the Notorious BIG, who was also fatally shot six months after Tupac. Both rappers were, at the time, in the middle of the infamous East Coast-West Coast rivalry.

Tupac openly accused BIG and Sean "Diddy" Combs of having prior knowledge of a shooting where he was seriously injured during a robbery in a midtown Manhattan hotel lobby. The two vehemently denied the accusation, and the situation sparked a feud that created a serious divide between the hip-hop community and its fans.

Despite Tupac only having a half-decade-long recording career, he secured 21 Billboard Hot 100s, including top 10 hits "Dear Mama" and "Old School" in 1995. Luminate, an entertainment data company, revealed that the rapper sold 33 million albums worldwide, said the Associated Press.
