U.S. President Joe Biden will announce new anti-heatwave measures that can help Americans protect themselves.
The White House said that these new steps improve weather forecasts, make drinking water more accessible, and protect workers during extremely high temperatures.
Anti-Heatwave Initiative
According to the Associated Press, the other leaders of the Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA)and the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) will join Biden fight the heatwave in the U.S.
Via ABC News, Karine Jean-Pierre, the White House press secretary said that POTUS is treating climate change with the urgency needed.
She described the extreme weather in the U.S. as "a difficult time" for Americans.
Among the things that Joe Biden wants to do is for the Department of Labor to enhance inspections of potentially hazardous workplaces.
These include construction sites, farms, and other labor areas that can put employees' lives at risk.
Aside from this, Biden also wants to have better enforcement of heat safety violations.
Employers, Employees to Receive Anti-Heatwave Notifications
Joe Biden's anti-heatwave initiative includes requiring the Department of Labor to send a hazard alert notification to employers and employees.
This notification will provide safety measures that workers and employers can follow to protect themselves from extreme heat.
Aside from this, the American leader also plans to allot $7 million for the development of more detailed weather predictions.
These advanced systems are expected to anticipate extreme weather, such as heat waves, more efficiently.
A $152 million budget will also be spent to improve the drinking water infrastructure of the United States, as well as climate resilience in Washington, Colorado, and California.
These new anti-heatwave measures follow other efforts adopted by the Biden Administration to combat the worsening heatwaves in the U.S.
"We know extreme weather events such as heat waves are becoming more frequent and more dangerous due to climate change," said lawmakers on Monday, July 24.
"Urgent action is needed to prevent more deaths," they added.
