House in Southern NJ Explodes; 3 Dead, 2 Injured, 1 Still Missing

One more person is unaccounted for after a third body was recovered at the scene.

Authorities reported an explosion in a Buena, New Jersey home Thursday morning (August 3), which caused the death of three people and left another two children injured. Another person was also reported missing after the fire caused by the explosion.

The explosion and fire damaged several nearby homes, but no other injuries were reported.

Two men aged 52 and 73, and four children - a 2-year-old boy and three girls ages 1, 3, and 16 - were likely in the home at the time.

Two bodies were found in the rubble, but authorities have not been able to determine the age or sex of the deceased. A third body was later recovered at the scene.

Two girls aged 1 and 16 were flown to St. Christopher's Hospital for Children in Philadelphia, with the infant taken in a critical condition while the teenager was stable.

The victims' names or their relation to each other have not been released as of this report as investigations on the explosion continue.
