Divided Brawl at Montgomery's Riverfront Park Leads to Multiple Arrests
At around 7 o'clock in the evening, the Montgomery Police Department swiftly responded to the disturbance near the 200 block of Coosa Street. Numerous people were engaged in the altercation, and several were apprehended by law enforcement.
A video of the incident, shared on social media, captured the tension and aggression of the situation. In one short clip, a group of white individuals is seen fighting a single Black man, who is identified as a dock worker named by Jasmine Williams of WSFA.
The audio of the video captured witnesses yelling, but the exact cause of the initial confrontation was not entirely clear. Witnesses, as well as local outlets, reported that the fight originated from a pontoon boat obstructing the regular docking spot reserved for the Harriott II Riverboat.
As the altercation unfolded, onlookers can be heard shouting for help, and the situation quickly spiraled out of control. A Black man, seemingly sympathetic to the attacked individual, jumps into the water from a boat and swims towards the dock. This momentary intervention appears to briefly deescalate the situation, but it does not last long, according to The Daily Mail.
