French police arrested German on suspicion of holding his wife captive for 12 years.
The authorities found the 53-year-old German woman naked and with her head shaved in the couple's apartment in Forbach, near the German border.
German Arrested for Allegedly Holding Wife Captive for 12 Years
As per a report by CBS News, French authorities arrested a 55-year-old German man for reportedly holding his wife captive in their flat for over a decade. The details of this harrowing case have stunned both the public and law enforcement officials, shedding light on the darkness that can often hide behind closed doors.
The woman says her husband assaulted and raped her multiple times while held captive for over a decade. She also disclosed that her partner had tortured her since 2011.
CBS News reports that the emergency services in Wiesbaden got a call on early August 7. The person on the other line was the woman, alleging her husband had held her captive for 12 years.
However, the German couple are staying in an apartment in France. And as such, the German authorities reached out to their French colleagues. From there, the police went to the address of the couple.
According to BBC News, a French police source notes that the local authorities found the woman semi-naked in their bathroom.
Meanwhile, South China Morning Post reports that the woman is grappling with leg and finger fractures. Her husband is now facing aggravated rape, torture, barbarism, and kidnapping accusations.
Local Prosecutor Says No Signs of Violence
Local prosecutor Oliver Glady disclosed the result of her examination, stressing that her health is "not good." The prosecutor added that the couple's apartment housed roughly nine cats. Glady says that authorities found a metal wire in the flat, which was intended to prevent the felines from escaping.
On top of that, the German prosecutor notes that the police found the woman with no traces of blood or violence.
One of the neighbors of the German couple says that the woman never left the apartment. Alicia further narrated that she heard screams from the flat. However, she assumed it was due to an illness since the man was "very polite, nice."
Another witness, Erika, who lives within the vicinity, says it has been several years since she last saw the German woman. Given that she had been missing in action for "maybe ten years," the witness had the impression that she had passed away or moved out.
