United States (US) President Joe Biden confirmed he is visiting Vietnam soon since the Vietnamese Communist Party chief wanted to boost ties.

Biden Says He is Visiting Vietnam 'Shortly'
As per Reuters, President Biden reveals that he is set to head to Vietnam "shortly." He further disclosed that the "head of Vietnam" wanted to meet him on a phone call before July ended. Biden made the revelation amid his speech at a political fundraiser in New Mexico. The POTUS vies for a Presidential nomination in the upcoming 2024 US elections.

The White House refused to divulge more details regarding Biden's visit to Vietnam. A spokesperson says they have "nothing further to share at this time."

Biden Says Vietnam Communist Party 'Desperately Wants to Meet' Him
According to the South China Morning Post, Biden disclosed during a separate fundraiser last July 28 that the "head of Vietnam" called him. He further states that the Vietnamese Communist Party chief Nguyễn Phú Trọng "desperately wants to meet with me when I go to the G20." The Group of 20 is holding a summit in India between September 9 to 10.
The visit would be Biden's first to Vietnam as President. The two countries have had a complicated history, but they have sought to improve relations in recent years.
The POTUS states that the current global situation provides the two nations "an opportunity to change the dynamic."
Biden's visit will likely focus on several issues, including trade, security, and climate change. Vietnam is a trading partner of the US, and the two countries have worked together on multiple security issues, including maritime security in the South China Sea.
