Apple's iPhone 15 Pro is reportedly finally getting an upgraded GPU, but it may not get an improvement on its RAM.
A leaker recently shed light on the potential hardware upgrades of the much-awaited iPhone 15 series, which debuts next month or in September.
Apple iPhone 15 Pro GPU Upgrade
As per 9to5 Mac, the Cupertino-based giant is reportedly planning to upgrade GPU in the iPhone 15 Pro models. The next-generation flagship phone is likely to shatter the boundaries of graphical prowess. A leaker reveals that an additional GPU core is heading its way within the sleek Titanium frame of the higher-end iPhones.
Phone Arena reports that a tipster, who goes by "Unknown21," disclosed the possible specs of the upcoming device. The game-changing upgrade provides the iPhone 15 Pro and the iPhone 15 Pro Max with a 6-core GPU. It features an extra core compared to its outgoing sibling, the iPhone 14 Pro lineup.
According to Mac Rumors, the current A16 chip, which powers the higher-end iPhone 14, flaunts a 6-core CPU, paired with a 5-core GPU. On the other hand, its successor, the A17 chip reportedly rocks a 6-core GPU, which matches the 6-core CPU.
With the extra GPU core, the upcoming A17 chip, which debuts on the iPhone 15 Pro series, is likely to deliver remarkable improvements in graphic performance.
The iPhone 15 Pro chip reportedly boasts a maximum clock rate of 3.70GHz, a slight upgrade from the A16 chip's 3.46GHz.
Users who mostly watch videos on TikTok or check out Instagram would barely notice any improvements with the chip upgrades. However, gamers and other power users are potentially getting a smoother overall experience.
Are iPhone 15 Pro Users Stuck with 6GB RAM?
The leaker notes that the higher-end iPhone 15 features 6GB RAM.
It is a bit surprising since most other high-end smartphones now have at least 8GB of RAM. Samsung goes as far as offering up to 12GB of RAM. However, iPhone maker has historically been slow to adopt new RAM standards.
Even with 6GB of RAM, the iPhone 15 Pro models should still be plenty powerful for most tasks. The A17 chip is expected to be a significant upgrade over the A16 chip, and the extra GPU core will help to improve gaming performance and other graphics-intensive tasks.
However, some users may find 6GB of RAM limiting, especially if they plan on using their iPhones for demanding tasks like video editing or gaming. It will be interesting to see how the iPhone 15 Pro models perform with 6GB of RAM and whether the tech behemoth increases the RAM in future models.
