Officials in Minneapolis are investigating whether or not two different carjackings are related to the same suspect, SFGate.com reported.
On Sunday, a man jumped into a woman's car around 8 p.m. in St. Paul, held a gun to her head, and forced her to drive. Though she was able to escape, the man drove away with her vehicle.
About 15 minutes later, a man jumped into the car of a woman leaving a fitness club in Maplewood. He allegedly threatened to rape her but then got nervous and asked to be dropped off.
Both victims described similar suspects. The Maplewood victim described the suspect as a white male, 30 to 40 years old, wearing a black ski mask, dark-colored pants, and light-colored surgical-type gloves, while the St. Paul victim described him as as between 30-40 years old, 6-feet-tall, with a medium build and facial hair, wearing dark clothing, a black cap, and latex gloves.
"In spite of the fact that incidents of this nature are very rare, the actions of this armed suspect are obviously dangerous, making his identification and arrest a top priority," said Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell in a press release Monday morning.
The first victim's stolen vehicle is a 2007 gray Hyundai Sonata with a Minnesota license plate of 557 CTT.
According to the St. Paul Pioneer Press, the North St. Paul and Maplewood are collaborating on an investigation.
Anyone with information regarding either case is asked to call police.
