Look What He Made Them Do: Ariana Grande, Demi Lovato Announce Split with Manager Scooter Braun Amid Bad Blood with Taylor Swift

Rumors of Justin Bieber following suit quashed.

Several reports confirm pop singers Ariana Grande and Demi Lovato have announced they were separating from their long-time manager Scooter Braun.

Billboard confirmed the departure of both Grande and Lovato following the bad blood saga between Braun and Taylor Swift over the latter's master recordings, which prompted her to re-record every single album she had prior to "Lover," known by her fans as the "Taylor's Version" series.

Both artists followed Swift and Colombian star J Balvin, who initially signed with Braun in 2019 but left in May to transfer to Roc Nation.

Representatives for Grande and Lovato have declined to comment on the announcement.

A Tale of Two Splits

Grande signed with Braun in 2013 and eventually recorded six albums under him, five of them topping the US Billboard charts. While not yet releasing any albums this decade, she is currently working on the movie adaptation of the Broadway musical "Wicked."

It was also Braun who organized a benefit concert called "One Love" in the aftermath of the Manchester bombings in the UK, which claimed the lives of 22 of Grande's fans.

It was unclear whether she was severing all ties with Braun outside management.

Meanwhile, an unnamed source told Variety Lovato and Braun parted ways amicably after four years of a working partnership. On Lovato's birthday Sunday (August 20), Braun sent her a birthday message on Instagram, calling her "one of the kindest souls out there."

Who is Scooter Braun?

Braun is one of the world's most successful music managers. His website claimed his clientele included artists like David Guetta, Black Eyed Peas, Ava Max, Carly Rae Jepsen, and Quavo.

His career began as a teenager when he promoted parties and events in Atlanta prior to him signing up with Def Jam Records, the BBC reported.

Braun came to prominence after he scouted then-12-year-old Canadian artist Justin Bieber in 2008. He tracked the boy down through his school, asking board members to contact his mother, and eventually signed him to a record label he had formed with R&B star Usher.

He became Beiber's most adamant supporter during his era of bad behavior, including vandalism, dangerous driving, and assault, and eventually helped him transition from teen idol to adult star with hits like "Sorry" and "Love Yourself."

There were also rumors Bieber was also considering parting ways with Scooter Braun, but have since been denied.

Braun and Swift began their feud in 2019 when the former bought her former record label, Big Machine, for $300 million through his investment group Ithaca Holdings. This also meant he gained control of the master recordings of Swift's first six albums, a move she saw as an act of aggression that "stripped [her] of [her] life's work."

The feud was exacerbated when Braun became the manager for Kanye West from 2015 to 2018. West was known for interrupting then-19-year-old Swift's acceptance speech at the VMA Awards in 2009.
