The British Transport Police (BTP) in Wolverhampton said they have rescued what they described as a "smartly-dressed" dog over concerns its owner was intoxicated and was not looking after it.
According to the BBC, Officers rescued the male dog, dressed in a blue collared shirt, at the Wolverhampton railway station and was temporarily kept in a police van, where he was photographed peering out of the window while the officer at the wheel smiled while giving a thumbs-up.
"Yesterday our officers received a text report regarding a female who was intoxicated and not adequately caring for her dog," BTP Black Country wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
The dog was put in alternative care while inquiries continue into the incident, which happened Friday (August 18), BTP added.
Responses to the dog's costume were both criticized and adored by social media users, saying things from the clothing being a "fashion crime" to commending the officers for rescuing the dog concerned in the incident.
