California Attorney General Rob Bonta decided to file a lawsuit against the Chino Valley Unified School District (CVUSD) in Southern California.
Bonta did this after CVUSD adopted a new school policy requiring schools to notify parents if children show signs of gender identification or pronoun changes.
CVUSD Sued Because of School Policy About Children's Gender Identity Change
According to Forbes' latest report, the CVUSD Board of Education approved the controversial school policy in July.
The school board's president, Sonja Shaw, explained that the policy will help them inform parents that they are sending their beloved children to school to learn and not for anything else.
Now, Bonta decided to file a legal action in state court on Monday, Aug. 28, as reported by the Associated Press.
The California AG argued that this kind of school policy will force transgender students and other kids experiencing gender identity changes to come out.
Bonta added that this will be a problem since forcing them out will negatively affect their well-being. In his lawsuit, the attorney wants to court to issue an order that will immediately block CVUSD's new school policy.
"For far too many transgender children and gender nonconforming youth, school serves as their only safe haven," said Rob.
He added that since school is where children can freely express their chosen gender identities-a place where they can find safety, privacy, and validation-it needs to be protected.

Nearby School Districts are Doing the Same
CVUSD President Sonja Shaw said that the latest lawsuit against them is not really surprising since state officials are already making efforts to "shut parents out of their kids' lives."
But, Shaw said that they will stand their ground to protect children since their policy is not breaking any law.
"Parents have a constitutional right in the upbringing of their children. Period," he stated.
Aside from CVUSD, other nearby school districts are implementing similar policies as well.
These school regulations are creating fierce debates at local school board meetings.
Because of this, the intense national conversation over transgender rights is becoming more serious.
In other U.S. states, schools are also being required to out trans, as well as non-binary students to their parents. If you want to learn more about the latest issue of CVUSD, you can click this link.
