Ohio Police Body-Cam Footage Showing Shooting Incident to Be Released
According to The Guardian's latest report, the body-camera footage containing the last moment of Ta'Kiya Young could be released to the public on Friday, Sept. 1.
Young, a 21-year-old resident of Columbus, Ohio, was the victim of the shooting incident. She was pronounced dead on Aug. 24 after she was shot outside a grocery store in Blendon Township.
Aside from her, the unborn daughter she was pregnant with also didn't survive. Since it has been days, many people have been asking why the body-cam of the police who shot her wasn't immediately shared with the public.
Sean Walton, the lawyer of Young's family, explained that the police department wants to minimize media attention on potentially damaging footage.
This is why police officials waited for days before agreeing to release the video recorded by the shooter's body camera.
John Belford, the Blendon Township police chief, said that the footage release delay resulted from a staff who was trying to redact the footage by the state's law properly.
Belford added that Young's family will be the first people outside the police department to see the video before it is publicly available.

Why the Police Shot the Pregnant Black Woman
The New York Post reported that the pregnant Black woman was shot after allegedly stealing alcohol from the supermarket.
Recently, Belford said that Ta'Kiya and other unnamed individuals were stealing from the Kroger store before the shooting incident happened.
He added that when two police officers reached Young, the woman was already in her sedan. They tried to stop her, asking the woman to step out of the vehicle.
However, Belford said Young tried to escape by accelerating her car directly at one of the police responders.
Because of this, the officer fired a single gunshot through the window, which killed the Black woman.
